Online Community Guidelines

Online Guidelines for the Safety of Our Community

Gifted Support Network is an open community of high-ability learners, parents and teachers.  We are connected by a uniqueness and insatiable urge to learn and be challenged in our learning.  Our mission is to encourage that love of learning, while helping kids build relationships with like-minded peers and having fun. Our classes are taught by certified teachers who have a passion to work with gifted, 2E and high-ability kids.  These teachers provide their own content and format for classes.

As we take our classes out of the classroom and into the technological realm, we recognize there can be some challenges.  It’s imperative to us that Gifted Support Network is a safe space for those taking our classes.  All users should treat each other without bias or prejudice across all pillars of diversity including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, and gender identity.  Below are some general guidelines we ask that our community observe.  Anyone not meeting these guidelines will be removed from our classes.

Teacher Code of Conduct

Our teachers promise to…
  • Offer classes only where you have appropriate background or expertise.
  • Teach classes professionally: be prepared, begin on-time, and treat all learners with respect. Do not teach while impaired by any substances, and do not model any behavior that a student age 18 or younger is restricted from doing.
  • Offer only secular, objective, age-appropriate classes
  • Create a safe and welcoming space for learners and families from all backgrounds, beliefs, and locations.

Parent Code of Conduct

Parents, we ask that you…
  • Connect with GSN’s Program Coordinator to ask questions or clarify any missing details about classes
  • Have your child show up for your class in a timely manner; many classes depend on group conversation, and the absence of a single student can have a big impact. Arriving 15-20 minutes prior to the first (or only) class will give you time to troubleshoot, if needed.
  • Have your child dress appropriately for class.  We suggest wearing something that they normally would wear to school.
  • Encourage your child to engage in civil conversation, and speak and act with respect for different opinions.
  • Be available to troubleshoot any technology issues if they arise.  Test and secure your student’s background, and make sure everyone in the household is aware the student is attending a live session to prevent any embarrassing situations. Minimize any distractions.
  • Provide constructive feedback about your class experience, for the benefit of the teacher and other parents and future students.
  • Help keep GSN a safe space for learners, families, and teachers from all backgrounds, beliefs, and locations by supervising your child during the class.

Learner Code of Conduct

Students, we ask that you...
  • Join class on time and be ready to learn.
  • Dress in a manner appropriate for class to help create a safe and comfortable environment for all learners and the teacher.
  • Treat your teacher(s) and your classmates with respect.
  • Take responsibility for making each class a great learning experience for yourself and your classmates: participate, stay on topic, and avoid distractions.
  • Contribute to your class environment in a way that is safe and welcoming for other learners and teachers from all backgrounds, beliefs, and locations.
  • Keep your personal information private and don't ask others to share personal information (e.g., email address, mailing address, phone number, gamer tags, etc.).

Gifted Support Network Code of Conduct

At GSN, we commit to...
  • Welcoming members from all backgrounds, beliefs, and locations and are committed to creating a safe space for our users across all pillars of diversity.
  • Listening to feedback from parents, teachers, and learners, and make changes accordingly.
  • Creating and enforcing policies to create a high quality, trusted, and safe community for learning. This may include removing content or users from the platform, if necessary.
  • Responding promptly to questions and issues that arise.

Finally, we ask that all community members assume the best intentions in others.  When something goes wrong, whether it's a technical glitch, an email without a response, or something else, we ask that you share feedback with us in a constructive way.  We promise to follow up and make it right to the best of our ability.
